CHPAPTER 2 Performance development ANNUAL REPORT Criminal Court It is one of the specialized courts at the Courts of First Instances, looking into all the violations, misdemeanors and crimes referred by Public prosecution. It is presided by a chief judge who reports to the Head of the Courts of First Instances. It received 31,347 cases in 2019. Tourist File Initiative Under the strategic plan of Dubai Government, and in cooperation with Dubai Police and Dubai Public Prosecution, the Tourist File Initiative was initiated in criminal cases to hear misdemeanor and felony cases for defendants or victims present in the UAE by virtue of a limited-duration tourist visa. The initiative aims to facilitate litigation procedures and ensure speedy adjudication. Initiative for issuing smart judgments at the Criminal Court In line with the aspiration and vision of Dubai Courts to function without papers (under the Paperless Courts initiative), and in coordination with the strategic partners at the Public Prosecution in Dubai and Dubai Police, three circuits have been established for smart criminal judgments to hear misdemeanor cases and minor violations; and one of them is allocated to hearing nationality and residence misdemeanors and violations, where the file is referred electronically by the Public Prosecution to the directorate via the electronic system, and the judgment is 78
